Spellers Love Adventures - Adventures without limits
In April 2026 we hosted the second Family Camp for the Spelling to Communicate community at Pirongia Forest Park Lodge.
Known as S2C, the Spelling to Communicate method is designed to help nonspeaking individuals communicate by pointing to letters on a board or keyboard to spell out words. It helps them express their thoughts and needs through written communication, overcoming speech barriers.
We were able to run the camp thanks to the generosity of our givealittle campaign donors. Families came from all over New Zealand and this year the camp went international with 2 self-funded families joining us from Adelaide, Australia.
In addition to last year's rock climbing and zip lining, this year we also ran our forest abseil and archery. The Brain Bloom Room joined us to run some workshops, we had arts & crafts, spelling sessions as well as bush walks and a campfire.
We hope to continue to be able to deliver outdoor recreation for this wonderful community through a new initiative "Spellers Adventures Aotearoa".
“This camp gives these kids that are often so very lonely a feeling of belonging, to feel they fit and are accepted just as they are, as a value focal point. These kids simply don't get this anywhere else..."
"This spellers camp is the only place they kids can feel 100% accepted and valued as their true and genuine self.."
